As I go along testing and playing with my CC01 I find many limitations that Tamiya could have done MUCH better with. Here are somethings I have done to make it better. All the pre made parts are from +AsiaTees Hobbies and the inks to the part will be listed if you are interested.
Cut off the front part of the chassis that would always hit obstacles and keep the truck from climbing.
You can see here that it is no longer a problem but I will be making a skid plate for it.
Because I cut off most of the support for the front body mount I had to solidify it with a home made aluminum plate that also attaches to the chassis. The Arm mount plate, arms, and shocks are GPM
the rear suspension links with home made link shock mounts on 90 mm shocks. the stock tamiya shocks are 70mm. The extra length and positioning of the 90mm shocks make for much more rear suspension travel. However you must do some modifying to get this to work properly.
the link shock mounts can be purchased on ebay. Just look up crawler
shock mounts or something like that I am sure you will find some..
NOW here is the oddball mod for this truck. While the 90mm shocks provide more travel, their positioning also makes them weak when compressed and you want them to be soft because the truck needs to sit at about halfway through those shocks in its normal stance. SOOOOOOO, I used a stock tamiya shock in the center to hold up the truck in its normal hight.
This is fully extended shocks
Much more flex than a stock CC01

This is how the center shocks works. Its only active when the truck is at its normal driving hight
This is with the rear suspension lifted.
this is at the normal driving hight.
Made a little battery retainer extension in order to insert my lipo batteries.
Installed an extension in order to be able to place the servo steering link on top because on the bottom it would hit the servo saver and prevent more steering in one direction.
Bottom view of the rear suspension setup. Notice I cleared out part of the chassis.
Not only for the center shock but because the upper links over the diff were hitting it.
Made a custom steering bracket to bring the steering links inline with the steering knuckles
The stock system has the steering links sitting way to far back thus reducing the possible steering capabilities of the truck.
any questions?

Great mods!! I'd like to know more about how you made the front suspension. Could you post some pictures without the front wheels please??
ReplyDeleteI've just updated my CC01 with the GPM rear suspension link kit and would like to lift the front suspension, but the stock stuff just can't be lifted. Thanks!
